CU Houseparty/ Weekend Away

Let me start by saying...
I DID NOT PRAY FOR SNOW. I noticed there's a rumor going on in church that I was.
I am not to be blamed for the snow.

Life as a first year medic is not easy. It is hard work.
If you think A Levels was hard, try Medicine MbChb.
And so, I needed a weekend away.

The Christian Union(CU) organizes a houseparty/weekend away every year.
Houseparty is just a term used to describe something like "CF Camp", it's not actually a party.
I decided to go for it.
26-28 November 2010.
It was in Cafn Lea Park, Mid Wales.
All I can say is, no regrets!

We departed Uni about 6.30 and headed for Wales.
It was a 2 hour trip and we reached at night.
We had a short service that night and then headed for the Mountain Snow Climb.
Lets just say it was a slippery journey up the mountain.
Many people slipped and fell. I was extremely careful
considering the fact that I am quite clumsy ( at times!)
I was proud of myself that I did not fall although I was given a bruise by the person who fell in front of and into me. ( And still I did not fall!!)
Let me also point out that I realised how Unfit I was, feeling signs of tiredness and breathlessness climbing up.
It must be all those late night eating and not exercising, which also contributed to my weight gain of 7kg. Moving On!

We had a few talks on Heaven and Hell throughout the 2 days while we were there.
Although I personally did not agree with a few things, I still gained from it.
During the free time, we decided to go sledging with ... BIN BAGS. Epic.
Oh, if you don't already know, Wales was covered in snow!

We also had a talent show on Saturday night. It was actually enjoyable I can say.
Oh ya, and the hall meeting turned into a dance floor after that?
It was freezing in Wales. We didn't realise how cold it was till we got back.
According to the girls, there was ice on the inside of a closed window in a small room shared by 4 with heater. Imagine.
I honestly did not feel that cold during the nights, all I needed was one Duvet.
On our 2nd night, it was actually -18 degree Celsius where we were.
According to the news, that night, Wales had the coldest temperature recorded in Brittain in the month of November in about 89 years. And we were just 10 miles away from that area.

Chid was there as well.

Overall, it was a great experience, and I also met a bunch of awesome people.

Happy Anniversary

A belated one actually, To Mom and Dad,

-4th November 2010-

Of being creative

After being here for a month, I have mastered the art of being creative.

What happens when your washing doesn't dry even after you've placed it in the dryer?
Even after you cleaned the lint, even when you've not overloaded the dryer...

Instead of getting into a rage, you do the next best thing, you improvise.

Open you cupboard doors,

Use you bed,

Use the radiator/heater,

Chair,

All around your door,

Your laundry basket,

Still not enough?
Get your suitcases out, and unzip it!

Your room will now look something like this

You have some clothes left, fear not!

And the one I am most proud of:

How creative can I get?

YES I KNOW MY ROOM IS MESSY, YOU DON"T HAVE TO TELL ME

Bonfire Night 2010

I've just been too busy to update, appologies for that.
Last night was the annual celebration of Bonfire Night 2010.
It's a celebration of a historical event which did not originate from something postive.
Click on the link if you wanna know more about Bonfire.
Anyway, every year there will be a public display of Fireworks in celebration of this event everywhere in England.
This year was my first.
We walked down to Sefton Park together with thousands, Tens of thousands actually.
By far the best I've seen, the pictures do no justice, neither does the video, HD konon.
Ok, the video is too big for me to upload here. There will be one posted on FB, I hope.

We had a little celebration ourselves before we left.

10 random things you should know about the Brits

1. They do talk about the weather and drink tea.
2. They all have different accents and I particularly like the scousers one. ( Yea, I'm not posh)
3. They do not have tissues( except toilet rolls) or bins in their toilets.
4. I have yet to see an ant since I've been here, hence you can eat in your room, make a mess of the kitchen etc.
5. IT IS COLD, and windy, and rainy.
6. They do not provide me with fan or air cond in my room( it's cold so yea, but a fan would come in handy, especially in summer)
7. They do not think Malaysians speak English.
8. Their roads and driving patterns are weird.
9. They walk really fast ( seriously, whoever said they were laid back and take their own sweet time)
10. They drink, party, club, drink, drink and drink( i think you should all know this)

This list is random, and probably not all I want to mention. I just can't think of anything else to fill up the 10 spaces. I'll probably edit it when I remember. Those that are highlighted I still find very hard to adapt to.

Last but not least, they are nice to me, and I thank God.
